Case Study One - Court House, Newton Ferrers
External redecoration of property
We were approached by the Court House Management Company, back in January 2012, for supplying a quotation for redecorating the exterior of this large property in Newton Ferrers and arranging scaffolding quotes to be included in the cost. Our clients had requested that work should commence after the bank holiday weekend, in April, and should be completed in a 7 week period, as this was considered a practical time scale giving weather and other tradesmen using the scaffolding to fit windows and carry out repairs to the roof, while our scaffolding was in place.
We were successful in our quotation and arranged to meet the company secretary to agree on a start date, draw up plans, arrange with other tradesmen to contact us regarding using our scaffolding and draw a detailed plan of works.

We suggested that we did this project in 3 sections as this would cause less inconvenience to the residents of the Court House. This allowed us to focus on these sections quickly and remove scaffolding to the next section which reduced unsightly scaffolding blocking residents views of the beautiful views from their windows for long periods, this method worked extremely well.
We worked on this project through 7 weeks of unsettled weather and spent a lot of time with each of the residents as we required access from time to time to work on these rather large windows to make sure they continued to work. We spent time freeing windows that had been painted shut from previous maintenance teams. The plan of works went as planned and with no delays and was completed in the agreed time scale.
Our time working at the Court House was a great experience for our young apprentice Rachael who took to dealing with residents with great care and the experience she gained was very rewarding as she was entered into the July issue of Devon Life for winning first place in the Regional award for new entrant - painter and decorator apprentice of the year.
We enjoyed working in the lovely village of Newton Ferrers and met some wonderful people who live at the Court House while we carried out our work.
